BUSTING OUR REAR ENDS TO BABY SIT?

What are we here for? Why do we even bust our rear ends to minister to the next generation?

When our Kids Church was still meeting in Galleria Suites, we implemented strict registration policies because we were right beside the mall. We wanted to up our security because the parents give us their trust for a couple of hours to teach their kids.

One mom came in late with her daughter. Because she was already late, she was in a hurry to get into the service so she can have her “spiritual moment”. Because she was rushing, she just wanted to drop off her daughter without registering her. But our kids ministry volunteers respectfully asked her to fill up the forms. To this, she reacted saying, “Ang arte-arte nyo naman. Aalagaan nyo lang naman ang anak ko. (You guys are overly meticulous. You’ll just baby sit my daughter for a couple of hours.)

My face turned red. Smoke came out of my ears. Fire came out of my mouth. Not really. But I was infuriated when I heard this. This is not what we are called to do. We are not here to merely baby-sit the next generation. If it was all we were to do, then I am going to be the first to zoom out of the door. This is not what I signed up for.

Kids Church is not a time to baby sit. It is a time to build into the lives of these future leaders. It is not a time to entertain. It is a time to equip them for future stations in life. It is not a time to merely transfer information. It is to hopefully usher in transformation so that they can truly be a world changer.

“It is easier to build boys and girls than to repair men and women.” (Bill Wilson)

Ptr. Paolo, well said. That's why parenting seminars are equally important to train them that parenting is not about baby sitting but about preparing the next generation of leaders! See you soon!

very well said. kids church teachers don't exist just to baby sit these young people, our purpose is greater than that.

Pastor Paolo,

What did you exactly say to this woman after that comment?

Paolo! I completely agree with you too =)! Hey - How are you? Thought of you and did a google search and here you are! Remember "School of E"? Dan and I work with kids too although it's a ministry in disguise for us as we coach an academic team for the FIRST LEGO League. Check out our website! God bless you! It's exciting to see how the Lord is using you! You have a beautiful family. We also have 3 children. Looking forward to reading more of your blog posts, Tami (Doren) Hartley, Michigan, USA
